What are possible responses to trauma and stress?
Potentially traumatic events can affect emergency service professionals in physical, mental, and emotional ways. While some individuals may automatically equate a trauma event to the development of PTSD, this is not always the case. There are day to day cumulative stressors from public safety work that can impact mental health and quality of life that can play just as much a role on mental health as more obviously traumatic singular events. Knowing the red flags and intervening early is a powerful strategy to prevent stress and trauma from escalating into a mental health injury or chronic condition.
